Whether you are looking to improve your athletic performance or achieve another health goal, our aim is to provide you with the building blocks for a strong foundation.
Your first appointment will typically take between 45 minutes to one hour, and treatment will usually commence on the first visit. However, complex cases may require a more extensive health history, physical examination, and/or further testing to be performed. In these cases, treatment may begin on the second visit.
What to expect for your first appointment works
On your initial visit to Foundations, we will be learning about you and your health concerns. Your physiotherapist will sit down with you to discuss your primary health concern, as well as your general health history. They will then complete a thorough physical examination, so that they can provide you with an accurate treatment plan.
From there, they will develop a plan of management that is specifically designed to meet your individual needs. We love it when you ask questions during this time – so please, ask away!
Once you’ve scheduled your first appointment, be sure to monitor your email inbox for a link to access our new patient forms. We kindly request that you complete these forms with as much detail as possible before your scheduled appointment. Doing so will enable your practitioner to thoroughly prepare for your session, ensuring that you receive the utmost quality of care during your visit.
If filling out the forms electronically is not feasible for you, kindly inform our receptionist, and we will arrange paper copies for you to complete in-person before your appointment. To make the most of your time with your practitioner, please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment if you need to use the paper intake forms.
Also, to your first appointment, please bring with you:
-
Appropriate clothing for the area you wish to be examined (i.e. Shorts for a knee or leg injury, tank top for a shoulder injury, etc.)
-
Imaging (x-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound) reports pertaining to an injury
-
A list of medications you are currently taking

How the Treatment Works
At Foundations, our physiotherapists will develop a personalized treatment plan that involves using manual therapy and rehab exercises based on the initial assessment. We aim to improve your health and mobility using our experience and your input to best meet your specific needs.
Your personalized treatment plan may also include joint mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, modalities (Interferential current, ultrasound, or laser), lifestyle changes, and/or rehabilitative exercises to help prevent a recurrence and to improve health or performance.
You will also be given a home exercise program to complete regularly between visits that will be updated as you progress through the treatment plan.
