Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues in the body to improve your physical as well as emotional health. It can be utilized alone or in conjunction with other therapies to treat acute, chronic, and/or overuse conditions.
The benefits offered by massage are immense, and include relaxation, reduced muscular tension, pain and inflammation, as well as increased joint range of motion, circulation, and lymphatic drainage.
Massage can also be used to help manage headaches, neck and lower back pain, sports injuries, sprains/strains, stress and anxiety, pregnancy, muscle spasms, and arthritis.
At Foundations, our massage therapist is trained and certified in the following massage techniques:
- Myofascial release
- Deep tissue massage
- Swedish massage
- Trigger point release
- Joint mobilization
- Cupping massage
- Active Release Technique®
- Hydrotherapy
- Remedial exercise
Our massage therapist may use one or more of the above techniques to help you meet your goals and get you back to feeling and performing your best.
What to Expect from Your First Appointment
During your first appointment, our massage therapist will begin by reviewing your health history, discussing your goals for treatment and the areas you wish to focus on, as well as performing a short assessment. This allows your therapist to develop a comprehensive treatment plan which is best suited to your needs. The massage will then begin.
Once your massage has finished, your therapist will discuss their findings and recommend a treatment plan. They may also recommend rehabilitative exercises to continue to promote healing.
Prior to your first appointment, intake forms will be emailed in advance, which you may complete at home and bring with you. You may also arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete your paperwork at the clinic.
Please arrive 15 min prior to your first appointment to fill in paperwork, or we can email you the forms and you can fill them out in advance.
Also, please bring with you:
- Imaging reports pertinent to an injury
- A list of medications you are currently taking

How the Treatment Works
Massage therapy produces different outcomes for each patient; however, we always strive to ensure you are feeling comfortable and relaxed during your treatment. Therefore, we keep the lines of communication open and encourage you to communicate with your therapist by providing feedback (ex: more/less pressure) to ensure the best outcome for your care.
So, whether you are experiencing neck or back pain, mobility issues, an injury, working towards a health goal or looking to improve your overall health and performance, massage therapy may be the right choice for you.
