Acupuncture Treatment

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a technique that uses small, sterile needles to stimulate nerves and optimize their activity. This process helps to decrease pain and increase strength in the surrounding musculature and soft tissues. Contemporary Medical Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment or as an adjunct to other therapies like chiropractic care or massage.

What can acupuncture treat?
  • Sports related injuries and other movement disorders
  • Acute musculoskeletal pain: neck, shoulder, low back, stiff/sore joints, etc.
  • Chronic pain: headaches/migraines, sciatica, osteoarthritis, neuritis, etc.

  • Arthritis and Tendonitis
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Fibromyalgia

What can I expect from an acupuncture session?

During your first appointment, the goal is to learn as much about you and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, along with your particular health concerns.

Afterwards, a treatment plan will be developed, and treatment may begin during this first appointment.

Acupuncture therapy can help to reduce tension and inflammation while simultaneously increasing strength and range of motion.

Once the needles are placed, your practitioner may leave them in the area for up to 15 minutes. After a session, you can expect some redness or light bleeding in the treated area, but little to no pain or discomfort.

Please note that acupuncture appointments can only be scheduled after an initial consultation has been completed.

Electroacupuncture

At Foundations, we also offer electroacupuncture. Electroacupuncture involves applying a small current through the acupuncture needles into the surrounding musculature, soft tissue, and nerves.

This treatment is similar to the use of a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) machine but has the ability to reach much deeper tissues.
